Gigrin Farmhouse is over 350 years old and still retains its beams and homely atmosphere. The farmhouse is about half a mile south of the small market town of Rhayader, near to the river Wye, and enjoys pleasant views over the surrounding hills. The Gigrin is a 200 acre farm with sheep, horses and other animals and 1½ mile nature trail.

This part of Wales offers a wide variety of outdoor activities: Walking, Golfing, Pony Trekking and Bird Watching. The Elan Valley Lakes, only a short drive away, offer some of the most spectacular scenery in Wales. The naturalist will find a wide variety of wildlife and the rich fishing grounds will appeal to the fisherman. 

In the evenings the taverns of Rhayader will give you a warm welcome, and offer excellent food. You can visit Rhayader’s Sports and Leisure Centre. Builth Wells, (13 miles), offers plays, films or other entertainment at the Wyeside Arts Centre and the Royal Welsh showground where various activities take place. The Spa town of Llandrindod Wells is 11 miles away.

The Accommodation

The Farmhouse is centrally heated, there are two double bedrooms with washbasins and hospitality trays. Guests have shared use of a bathroom with power shower. 

There is a residents’ sitting room with TV and dining room where a full Welsh breakfast is served. Evening meals are available close by.

Red Kite Cottage is a converted stable adjoining the farmhouse, with its own private entrance it enjoys the same pleasant views. 

There are two double bedrooms, fully carpeted and with dimplex radiators. 

Bed linen is provided.

The bathroom has WC, washbasin, shaver point, power shower, wall heater and airing cupboard. 


The open plan kitchen/living area is fully equipped with electric cooker, fridge, microwave, sink unit, crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils. 

There is an electric fire for extra heating and colour television. Two night storage heaters are included in the rent. 

Red Kite Feeding Station

These beautiful birds of prey are fed daily together with Ravens, Buzzards and other Carrion feeding birds. Feeding takes place at 2 o'clock G.M.T. Hides are suitable for wheelchair access and viewing.
